Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: March 21, 2023

  2. Approval of the Agenda for this meeting
    Peter Keller reported that the Agenda item 6.1 Director Evaluation is not ready for board review and needs to be addressed at a later board meeting. Lydia Tonoyan moved to approve the amendment to the agenda. Subsequent voting proceeded.Motion to approve the agenda with the amendment

  3. Read the Nasha Shkola Mission and Vision
    Mission: Nasha Shkola aspires to be a multi-cultural charter school committed to exceptional education in all areas of academic inquiry with an emphasis on Russian Language and Culture, providing structured and responsive learning environment based upon educational best practices for all students and their families.
    Vision: To be an academically rigorous school preparing students for continued success as motivated learners and global citizens.

      1. Executive Director Report
        • 96 students are currently enrolled
        • 10 students are enrolled for the upcoming school year
        • ACCESS testing has been completed
        • Russian Language Assessment is underway
        • MCAs for the majority of students will be held after Spring Break.
        • Employment update –
          • Our former Science teacher has returned to teach science in 5th grade.
          • The school has hired a Special Education para.
        • School held the annual Talent Show on March 8th.
        • Kangaroo Math Compettiotion for students in grades 1 – 8 took place March 16, 2023 with 9 contestants.
        • Operations: no change.
      2. Financial Report – January 2023
        • Fund 01
          • As of February 28th, 2023 the school has received in Fund 01 a total of $1,119,479 of current Fiscal Year State, Federal, and Local revenues which is 57% of its current budgeted amount.
          • As of February 28, 2023 the school has expended in Fund 01 $1,149,569 which is 60% of its current budgeted expense.
          • NS ended February 2023 with a current fiscal year to date Fund 01 deficit balance (revenues received less expenditures incurred) of ($30,090).
        • Fund 02
          • As of February 28, 2023 the school has received in Fund 02 a total of $6,765 of current Fiscal Year State, Federal, and Local revenues which is 10% of its current budgeted amount.
          • As of February 28, 2023 the school has expended in Fund 02 $38,709 which is 57% of its current budgeted expense.
          • NS ended February 2023 with a current fiscal year to date Fund 02 deficit balance (revenues received less expenditures incurred) of ($31,944).
          • The school is working with the state to address the deficit.
        • Other:
          • NS had a total cash balance of $454,764 at the end of February 2023 reflected across all funds.
          • NS had a balance of $2,237 in accounts receivable at February 28, 2023.
          • There was a balance of $56,288 in current liabilities for general accounts payable and payroll liabilities at February 28, 2023. A portion of the liability is for payroll withholdings on the last day of the month which are not paid until the first days of the next month, thus they are reflected on the current balance sheet.
          • NS had an overall audited fund balance of $505,979 at June 30, 2023 which includes its investments in fixed assets.
          • The Adopted Budget Approved is based on 130 ADM or 135 Pupil Units. State aid is being paid on 135 ADM or 141 Pupil Unit.
          • The request to adjust the ADM was sent to MDE in December, 2022.

    2. Board Election 2023: monthly update
      • May 8th is the deadline for board applications.
      • Legal counsel is reviewing our board election policies. The policies will be ready for the April board meeting.

      • Laurie Shroeder from IQS has been working to review our by-laws and suggesting revisions.
