Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: May 18, 2021

    Vision:
    To be an academically rigorous school preparing students for continued success as motivated learners and global citizens.
    Mission: Nasha Shkola aspires to be a multi-cultural charter school committed to exceptional education in all areas of academic inquiry with an emphasis on Russian Language and Culture, providing structured and responsive learning environment based upon educational best practices for all students and their families.

      1. Enrollment – 105
      2. Operations
        Governor Walz announced an end to the statewide mask requirement. Minnesota’s Safe Learning Plan, along with the existing face covering guidance for schools and child care settings, remain in effect. Through the end of the 2020-21 school year (last teacher contact day), masks must continue to be worn by everyone inside school buildings or on a school bus. NS will follow the guidance as directed by the MDE/MDH.
      3. Academic achievement
        • Spring assessments completed and in progress:
          • MCA – completed, all students in grades 3-8
          • NWEA – in progress schoolwide: K-8
          • AAPPL – Russian Language Proficiency test- to be completed in the second part of May for students in grades 6-8.
        • School events in the end of the school year:
          • Slavic Bazaar: celebrating heritage of our students. During the last week of school.
          • Last Bell Ceremony: last day of school; schoolwide assembly, parents invited to participate.

      1. Monthly Finance Report, presented by Lisa Hasledalen
        As of April 30, 2021 the school has received in Fund 01 a total of $1,123,307 of current Fiscal Year State, Federal, and Local revenues which is 76% of its current budgeted amount. As of April 30, 2021 the school has expended in Fund 01 $1,133,148 which is 77% of its current budgeted expense. Nasha Shkola Charter School ended April 2021 with a current fiscal year to date Fund 01 deficit balance (revenues received less expenditures incurred) of ($9,842).
        FOOD SERVICE FUND – 02
        As of April 30, 2021 the school has received in Fund 02 a total of $22,973 of current Fiscal Year State, Federal, and Local revenues which is 42% of its current budgeted amount. As of April 30, 2021 the school has expended in Fund 02 $32,893 which is 59% of its current budgeted expense. Nasha Shkola Charter School ended April 2021 with a current fiscal year to date Fund 02 deficit balance (revenues received less expenditures incurred) of ($9,920). Credits for commodities are expected before the end of school year (June 30, 2021)
        FINANCIAL STATEMENT OVERVIEW-BALANCE SHEET
        Nasha Shkola Charter School had a total cash balance of $234,372 at the end of April 2021 reflected across all funds. Nasha Shkola Charter School had a balance of ($1,385) in accounts receivable at April 30, 2021.

    1. NS Planning 21-22
      • Enrollment projections & Intent to return survey
        Conducted intent to return survey. Over 50% of families have responded positively. The remainder of the families will be surveys via phone and in person.
        Kindergarten enrollment: 30 students. In the situation if enrollment reaches 36 confirmed students, NS would consider opening the second Kindergarten class and hire a teacher.
        Projected enrollment: 120-130 students

      • Board development committee is recommending the following candidates for election:

        Motion: add Nicole Nelson, Mark Eilers, and Marisol Serdiouk to the ballot for the annual board election on June 4, 2021.
