Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: December 21, 2021

  3. Read the Nasha Shkola Mission and Vision
    Vision:
    To be an academically rigorous school preparing students for continued success as motivated learners and global citizens.
    Mission: Nasha Shkola aspires to be a multi-cultural charter school committed to exceptional education in all areas of academic inquiry with an emphasis on Russian Language and Culture, providing structured and responsive learning environment based upon educational best practices for all students and their families.

    1. Executive Director report
      1. School update
        • Enrollment:
          • 132 students, 18 students are in 7th and 8th grade, this puts us at 136.5 ADM

        • Operations
        • Student achievement:
          • The NWEA Winter assessments have started. Reading NWEA has been completed in elementary and middle school grades. Some grades have completed the Math NWEA; we will resume testing for remaining grades after winter break.
          • Grades K – 3 are completing the winter benchmarking tests.
        • Employment/staff update:
          • We are continuing to look for a Kindergarten teacher and SPED Paraprofessional.
          • We have hired a full-time general education para to support our EL population.

      1. Monthly Finance Report – November 2021
        • Fund 01
          • As of November 30, 2021, NS has received a total of $573,474 which is 38% of its current budgeted amount.
          • As of November 30, 2021, NS has expended $580,521 which is 39% of its current budgeted expense.
          • NS ended November 2021 with a current fiscal year to data deficit balance of $7,047.
        • Fund 02
          • As of November 30, 2021, NS has received a total of $16,197 which is 42% of its current budgeted amount.
          • As of November 30, 2021, NS has expended $21,803 which is 56% of its current budgeted expense.
          • NS ended November 2021 with a current fiscal year to date deficit balance of $5,606.
        • NS had a total cash balance of $252,281 at the end of November 2021 reflected across all funds.
        • NS had a balance of $5,185 in accounts receivable at November 30, 2021.
        • There was a balance of $43,505 in current liabilities for general accounts payable and payroll liabilities at November 30, 2021.
        • NS had an overall audited fund balance of $278,559 at June 30, 2021 which includes its investments in fixed assets.
      2. Grant review:
        ESSER 160 – applied

        • This grant focuses on the social-emotional needs of students. It will be used to provide training to teachers. We are waiting for final approval.
          ESSER 161 – applied
        • The focus of this grant is to provide after-school academic support to students.
          Fund 171: Pandemic Enrollment Loss – $13,494.00 (Received)
          Connectivity grant – applied

  7. Old Business
    1. NS Health & Safety Plan – monthly follow up
      • Testing Grant/testing program
        • We are continuing with the current Health & Safety Plan.
        • We have applied for the Testing Grant.
        • We have tests available for teachers and staff.
      • Distance Learning (January 3-4)
        • We will have in-person learning after winter break.
        • We will have 3 teachers absent until January 5th.
        • One grade will be in distance learning on January 3rd and 4th due to teacher absence.
    2. Lease 22-23 – monthly follow up
      • The Building Search Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, January 11th at 6:30pm to discuss building options.

      • Changes to the application have been submitted and are awaiting approval by the state.

    • We had a New Year’s Concert on Friday, December 17th, 2021.
    • A recording will be made available for families.
    • The PTO is looking to become an official group recognized by the state.
    • We are looking to raise the hourly rate of our paras from $120 per day to $140 per day. This will make their rate more comparable to other schools’ rate.

The Nasha Shkola Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30PM. 
The Finance Committee meets at 5:30 prior to the board meeting.
