Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: August 17, 2021

  3. Read the Nasha Shkola Mission and Vision
    Vision:
    To be an academically rigorous school preparing students for continued success as motivated learners and global citizens.
    Mission: Nasha Shkola aspires to be a multi-cultural charter school committed to exceptional education in all areas of academic inquiry with an emphasis on Russian Language and Culture, providing structured and responsive learning environment based upon educational best practices for all students and their families.

      1. Enrollment projections (Current enrollment 132 total, kindergarten 34)

        • MCA
          • There is a decline in math and reading MCA test scores from last Spring’s assessment.
          • The state will not be including data from Spring 2020. 57 students took the test.
          • The MCA Reading Proficiency declined from 49.20% to 47.37%.
          • Middle school students grades 6-8 had a reading proficiency over 60%.
          • 47.37% of students maintained their level of proficiency and 29.4% increased their level.
          • Increase in proficiency for the lower achievement level: 53.3% of the lower achieving students increased their level.
          • The MCA Math Proficiency declined from 67.80% to 52.63%.
          • Grades 4, 7, and 8 had proficiency levels exceeding 60%.
          • The Free and Reduced Population had a math proficiency of 52%.
          • The Free and Reduced Population (40 students) Reading score declined from 39.30% to 37.50%.
          • The Free and Reduced Population Math score declined from 58.10% to 52.50%.
        • ACCESS
          • ACCESS for ELLs (52 students) declines across all domains except for Writing which had a 1% increase from previous years.
        • NWEA
          • Elementary grades met and exceeded their growth in Reading and Math on the NWEA tests.
          • Overall proficiency decrease in NWEA Math.
          • Decrease in proficiency for ELL and FPR.
          • Low growth in Middle School grades.
        • Additional Notes
          • We will implement the Guided Reading program again school-wide this upcoming school year.

      1. June 2021 Finance Report
        • Fund 01 had a deficit balance of $1,996.
        • Fund 02 had a deficit balance of $383.
        • The overall audited fund balance of $252,164
      2. July 2021 Finance Report
        • Fund 01 had a positive balance of $39,598
        • Fund 02 had a deficit balance of $826
        • The overall audited fund balance was $278,559.

          Motion to approve the fund transfer of $3,557.83 from the general fund to Fund 02.

    1. FY22 Planning
      • Fall 20-21 Safe Learning (COVID Preparedness) Plan
        • Self-screening tests will be emailed every morning during the school week to parents by the Director.
        • Temperature checks will not be done this year.
        • Masks will be required if students present upper-respiratory symptoms of an illness.
        • In the case of an outbreak, students will not be rotating between classes and will stay in their assigned classrooms.
      • Online Learning Format approval by MDE
        • Nasha Shkola received approval for 30 days of Distance Learning.
      • Staff update
        • A 3rd grade teacher has been secured as a long-term substitute from a staffing agency.
        • We are continuing to look for a Science teacher, SPED teacher, and a SPED para.

    1. IQS Annual Review 20-21
      • The composite score is 3.47.
    2. Strategic Plan: setting annual goals
    3. Schoolwide Improvement Plan 2021-2022
  9. Other
    • NLC needs to confirm a minimum number of students, the goal is a number between 120-130 students.
    • A realtor has been contacted regarding new potential spaces for the school.

The Nasha Shkola Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30PM. 
The Finance Committee meets at 5:30 prior to the board meeting.
