Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: June 9, 2017

  2. Approval of the Agenda
    The board moves to approve the agenda for the agenda for June 9th, 2017.

  3. Read the Nasha Shkola Mission and Vision
    Vision: To be an academically rigorous school preparing students for the world.
    Mission: Nasha Shkola will be a multi-cultural charter school committed to academic excellence, provide a highly structured learning environment based upon education best practices for students interested in the Russian language and culture, achieved through the collaborative efforts of parents, staff, and the communities we serve.

    1. Chairs Executive Report: Yelena Hardcopf

    2. Executive Director report
      1. Enrollment- 102
      2. Student Achievement and LIT (Yelena Hardcopf)
        1. The school is still waiting for results from MCA tests.
        2. Other assessments show 50% of the students are above or at the national average.
        3. Teachers will analyze the results on June 26th.
      3. Staff Update
        1. The middle school science teacher will move to fourth grade and teach next year.  Our elementary school is fully staffed as of this meeting.  We still need a science teacher for middle school.
        2. The school also needs to hire a special education teacher.
        3. One Russian language teacher will go one maternity leave in September through December 2017. The school will have a substitute, Lada Bondar, teach during these months.  The school also needs a reading specialist for interventions.
    3. Financial Report
      1. June Finance report was not available at the time of the meeting. It will be released on June 15th.

  7. Old Business
    1. Moving agenda and preparation (Assistance with move- volunteers.)
      1. Piano and other heavy items will be moved later in the month but should be staged near the office before the end of the month.
      2. Loeffler will take the copier at the end of the month.
      3. The school needs to get things packed and put into containers next week.
    2. School advertisement and recruitment for enrollment.
      1. The school has 22 kindergarteners for next year.
      2.  Festivals that are family friendly should be pursued to get the word out.
        1. Look at festivals and other events that are family friendly for marketing our school.
        2. Mini poster for the library in Brooklyn Park, MN.The school needs to get a poster for the library.
      3. Other
        1. Wish list of 100,000 for a non-profit meeting at the University of Minnesota.
    3. Follow up on Action Items from May 16,2017.
      1. Go Fund Me
        1. Nearly four thousand dollars has been raised.
        2. Wording has been changed to the letters and been distributed to thank donors.
        3. Make changes to the message for Go Fund Me to explain that the donation is tax deductible.
      2. Director’s evaluation:  Finalize results of the director evaluation and sit down to meet with the director before the next meeting.
      3. School surveys (staff, parent, and student).This is in process and will be completed in the coming two weeks.
  8. New Business
    1. Closeout with MCACloseout with MCA
      1. Shutting off phone• Minnetonka Christian Academy shut off the phones to our school for the last two weeks of school.
        1. This purely punitive measure harmed our school’s ability to communicate with parents and others connected to our school and could have jeopardized the safety of our school.
      2. Discussing the final amount owed per agreement- attorney looking at this.
        1. 25,000$ security deposit.
        2. 30,000 payment for additional expenses to rent the building to new tenants.  We are possibly responsible for paying this and our attorney is considering the legality of such payments.
        3. Another possible number is 8,000 dollars.  Nasha Shkola and MCA have different ideas of what is owed.  The school’s attorney will negotiate this.
    2. Summer schedule for board meetings
      1. The board discussed the schedule for board meeting over the summer to ensure there is a quorum.  The board decided on July 18th as the date of the next board meeting.
    3. Annual Board election results.
      1. The board counted the ballots at the meeting.
      2. 31 % of stakeholders voted.
      3. There were forty ballots counted.
      4. For the 2017 Nasha Shkola Charter School Stakeholder election the board has two parent positions open, two community positions open and one teacher position open.
        The board moves to accept the tabulated results of the 2017 Nasha Shkola Charter School Stakeholder election as follows:   Alexj Abyzov 37 votes for open parent position, Yelena (Last Name?) 27 votes for open community position, and Christian Schmidt 40 votes for open teacher position.
